Isatis.py training – Module 1: Introduction to Python
Where this module sits
The Isatis.py course is delivered in six 3-hour modules that you can take separately or in sequence:
– Module 1: Introduction to Python. Get acquainted with Python and explore how Isatis.py is connected to this programming language.
– Module 2: Exploratory Data Analysis. Master Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) to effectively explore data using Isatis.py.
– Module 3: Kriging. Master kriging using Isatis.py.
– Module 4: Continuous simulations. Master simulations and uncertainty quantification using Isatis.py.
– Module 5: Multivariate estimation. Master multivariate estimation using Isatis.py.
– Module 6: Indicators estimation and simulations. Master estimation and simulation of indicators and categorical variables using Isatis.py.
Objectives
Manual technical procedures become difficult to maintain when data or parameters change. You will learn to read and write Python code, define variables and arrays, use loops and conditions, integrate external scientific libraries, and record simple tasks. Hands-on Isatis.py exercises establish the scripting foundation for flexible, repeatable, and auditable geostatistical workflows.
Target audience
Company developers, geoscientists, and data scientists who need the Python foundations to build and automate geostatistical workflows with Isatis.py; no prior scripting experience is required.
Content
Set up the Python environment
– Explore the basics of Anaconda and Python.
– Read and interpret Python code before creating a first script.
Build reusable scripts
– Define variables and arrays that can be adapted to different domains or datasets.
– Use loops and conditional statements to control automated workflows.
Integrate libraries and automate tasks
– Install and use external scientific libraries to add functionality and generate visuals and graphics.
– Record and automate simple recurring tasks as input data changes and for audit purposes.
– Practise the scripting workflow through hands-on exercises using Isatis.py.
